Skills for Work got off to a great start at the National Ploughing Championships on the first day of the three day event. The early morning arrivals were greeted by dry weather, sunshine and SFW Regional Co-ordinators. Amongst the many event goers included Alan Kelly, TD, (Labour) and Kristen Maté Maher, the 2018 Rose of Tralee, who stopped by the Skills for Work stand. Alan and Kristen were met by the SFW co-ordinators who took the opportunity to share with them, the achievement of this award winning workplace educational programme and of the many courses on offer to company’s across the country through the local ETBs.


Skills for Work is funded by the Irish government as part of the SOLAS workplace strategy #Skills to Advance.

Skills for Work is an Irish and European award winning workplace programme which offers a wide range of bespoke tailored educational courses to the Irish workforce, which are fully funded by the Irish government.

Award Winners Celebration for Skills for Work

There was a full house at the recent award winners event held by Skills for Work and Dublin & Dún Laoghaire ETB, with participants attending from the four corners of Ireland to share in the celebration of the programmes winning the European Training at Work Award.  

Key speakers included representatives from companies such as Keeling’s, Woodies DIY, Transport Industry, Lone Trader, and organisations the Defence Forces, AONTAS and Skills for Work.   The event provided an ideal opportunity for those who had participated in the programme, either as an employer or employee to speak about the importance of engaging in workplace education and how the company and its staff have benefited from the programme.   

The event was opened by Dr.Fionnuala Anderson, Director of FET (DDLETB).

Out in Force to Meet the Judges!

Corporal Vanessa Fox represented the Defence Forces when meeting the panel of Judge’s as part of the decision making process in choosing the AONTAS Star Award Winner 2018. Vanessa spoke about the many benefits the Skills for Work Career Preparation Course provided to the army staff who were about to leave the force and were returning to civilian life.

Meeting the judges in the Ashling Hotel were Marian Lynch, Geraldine O’Haire (SFW), Corp. Vanessa Fox and Paul Kilbride.

Paul Kilbride shared with the judges his experiences and why he participated in the Career Preparation Course highlighting the confidence it gave him adjusting to the life and family changes which occurred upon leaving the army. He also acknowledged that the course provided him with other opportunities to continue with his educational journey as part of the ETBs Adult Education Service. 

Delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award, Skills for Work are now looking forward to the celebrations on the 5th March when AONTAS will announced the winners as part of the AONTAS Adult Learners Festival 5th – 9th March.

Promoting Skills for Work at the Hospitality Expo!

Skills for Work were delighted to participate in the recent Hospitality and Food Expo in the RDS. It provided an opportunity to meet new companies to promote the extensive range of courses available for staff working in this particular area of employment.  Workplace specify courses on offer include; Culinary Skills, Health & Safety in the Workplace, Communication Skills and Customer Service.

All Skills for Work courses are designed to meet the needs of the employer and their staff and are delivered locally by the Education Training Boards (ETB). Skills for Work courses are funded by the Department of Education and Skills (DES).

Skills for Work – Meeting the Judges, AONTAS STAR Award 2018

Skills for Work has been shorted listed for an award under the AONTAS Star Awards 2018 (Showcasing Teamwork Award Recognition). Participants from the very successful “CAREER PREPARATION COURSE”  will be meeting the judges on Monday 5th February to tell them about this fantastic course which is designed by Skills for Work to support workers who may be about to leave the workforce.

The Career Preparation Course was shortlisted under the “Adult Learner Initiative that Promote Wellbeing”

The Career Preparation Course is funded by the DES and delivered by the local Education & Training Boards.

Kildare Wicklow ETB and Skills for Work were very happy to celebrate with workers from VENTAC on their recent achievement on receiving their QQI Award certificate.

VENTAC designs, manufacture and supply acoustic solutions for Commercial and Industrial Vehicle OEMS. Servicing a variety of sectors worldwide and their product range supports the requirement of a broad range of vehicle application.

The presentation of awards was held in Tulfarris Co. Wicklow in October.
